Crossing the Alps

We set out excitedly to reach our destination on the Italian Lakes by late afternoon; but first we had  to cross the Alps! Jim drove with safety and precision despite the spectacular mountains we were traversing. We had to stop frequently so that he didn’t miss out and the oohs and aahs were many. I’ll let our pics tell the story.

Very soon after leaving Lucerne we were heading into the mountains

Many high powered cars roared past us, their drivers enjoying the challenge of the road. Not us though – Jim drove very sedately.

The road is frequently covered to protect from avalanches.

Hannibal and his elephants crossed the Alps. So did this historic horse and buggy – very slowly!

The roller coaster is in fact the road we are about to take to descend into Italy. Let’s go!!

The last stop of our European adventure was Lake Maggiore in the beautiful Italian Lakes. Check back here soon to join us.

Right now we are getting ready to go to Ireland and take a swing through Wales on the way back. The highlight will be the Puck Fair held annually in Killorglin, my grandfather’s home town, for more than 500 years. If you would like to check it out take a look here.
