Off to London to visit the Queen…

Just got back from our regular Friday night drink at The Fox in nearby Corscombe.  What a friendly pub The Fox is. We feel like we have been regulars there for years. People are so interested in Australia and what we are doing here. Tonight the conversation was all about the scary creatures that apparently inhabit our country.

Off to London tomorrow for my birthday weekend. It used to be a milestone birthday.  It meant that you were eligible for the pension, but not anymore! On Monday we are spending the important day at Elstree studios watching the taping of UK quiz show “Pointless”. Yes, I know Rach – I am officially a bigger nerd than you. Last week by chance I met the presenter, Alexander Armstrong in Sherborne Abbey. It will be interesting to see if he remembers me.  Realistically, probably not!

What an amazingly interesting and rather busy couple of weeks we have had. Jim is still going to the gym and looking after his vege garden as well as indulging a new passion for jigsaw puzzles and fishing in the Nightingale Farm pond.  I have taken myself on some of amazing walks. It is also fun to have the time to enjoy cooking including a batch of scones that I would have been happy to enter in the Royal Melbourne Show.

We will spend Sunday in the City of London but have no plan. We will go back for a longer visit later in the year. If you have a quirky or secret place that you think we would love let us know.  We are very open to suggestions.

By the time I wake up in the morning the election will be over. “Thank God for that.” seems to be the overwhelming view of the people I talk to. It’s the first time in my adult life that I haven’t cast a vote and I feel strangely guilty.

RIP Hawkie. A great union leader and Prime Minister.

  1. Needed your votes as it turned out! Devastating night and an unbearable four years ahead. Only consolation is Abbott and Anning both lost!

    • Happy Birthday Frankie! And I’m so glad you avoided the hype of the elections somewhat this year! It was pretty intense marketing this time round.
Say hi to the queen for me and your scones sound amazing!

  3. I was amazed sitting at Piccadilly Square (1975 or thereabouts ) as a 21 yo and watching the world go by- Piccadilly Square was famous for that. And then was where the Queen shops (Harrods) although it was classy I did not buy anything as nothing appealed to me! And then there is the Street of Fashionista- but I forgot what that was called.
You inspire me, enjoy your adventures and love reminiscing England- I spent 2 years abroad although going on different paths= I settled in Ireland!
Enjoy! Love chatting to you and enjoying your journey
    Kindest regards
