As there are only two of us our votes have tended to cancel each other out so we have debated long and hard to find a winner. When neither of us would give in we have given a joint award. However, as I do the posts I might have a bit of an advantage!
Award for Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Thanks to Jane and John for recommending Point Hartland and inviting us to their “little house in the woods” nearby. It was an absolute highlight of our visit.
Just along the coast from famous landmark Lands End which we will discuss later. Suffice to say that one of them is not tacky and overdeveloped.
Honorable mention to:
We didn’t have enough time to do Dartmoor National Park justice and the weather on the moor was windy and freezing so not conducive to hiking to ancient monuments. It was very impressive and may be promoted when we go back in the summer. Contained not one but two specific award winners though!
Award for Best Human Built Experience
Again we had joint winners.
The Minack Theatre is an open-air theatre, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking spectacular Porthcurno Bay. It is the brainchild of Rowena Cade who worked throughout her life to build and improve the theatre over the winter months each year so that performances could be held there in the summer.
In the nose-bleed seats
We were unable to actually visit the castle at St Michael’s Mount this time however we ate lunch admiring it from the beach at Marazion. It was a picnic lunch with an extraordinary view.
